What was it that made this particular wedding dress catch your eye and fall in love?
I had seen a bride online just after we got engaged, wearing a gorgeous strapless dress that cinched at the waist and had a slit. When I saw this dress, I just thought she looked so elegant, and my goal became to find something similar.
Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.
I had seen some inspo pics of dresses I thought I would like to try on, but like most people, I had never worn a dress like this before—so I had no idea what would look good or not! My friends and I attended an Astra Bridal Sip and See, which was absolutely worth it. Being able to look at all the dresses first and then book an appointment afterward, knowing what styles I wanted to try, made the whole process so much less stressful. I 100% recommend that all brides go to a Sip and See first, if possible.
From there, I tried on my top pick—the Coventry dress from Forget Me Knot—and fell in love instantly. The whole dress appointment was so easy, and Lisa and the Wellington team were amazing to deal with. They even recommended a place for alterations, which was so helpful, and my dress arrived with plenty of time to spare.

Tell us your story, how you both met, and the proposal.
Sam and I have been together for 8 years, after meeting while working at McDonald's. Since then, we’ve done a bit of traveling, bought our first home, and started talking about marriage. So, in 2022, while on our trip to America in Washington, D.C., visiting family, we went for a lovely day out. It started with a trip to a bakery for some picnic supplies, and then we set up right between the Washington Monument and the Abraham Lincoln Memorial. It was a picture-perfect day, which was made even better when Sam proposed.
What was your favourite part of the day?
The standouts would have to be the food and the flowers; both were better than anything we could have imagined. I wish I could do it over and over again.
Tell us about your wedding day as a whole.
It was such a calm morning – we were getting ready separately with our bridal parties. I had the best hair and makeup team, and it felt like having your friends with you on your wedding morning, which is exactly what you need.
The weather was just perfect – a little cloudy and not too hot. I’m not sure who cried more, myself or Sam, during the ceremony. Miranda from MarryAllThePeople was just the best. She is so hilarious and easy going, and she made us feel so at ease.
Paula and the team at Rose and Smith have it down to a tee, and our day ran so smoothly. One thing that is always mentioned by our guests is the food. Dale Keith, the chef at Rose and Smith, is just incredible. They cook a lot of the food outside on outdoor fire pits, which adds another element to the venue as guests get to interact with the chefs. This was a big standout for Sam when we were looking for a venue and is one of the many reasons why we went with Rose and Smith.
Another standout was at 10:30 p.m. after dinner and dancing, when we had the option of having cheeseburgers, which Dale is famous for. These were a big hit with everyone and are always brought up as a highlight.
Finally, what is your biggest piece of advice for brides to be?
This is your day, while
you may want to make decisions to make others happy it is you that is getting
married and, in the end, your special day. Do what makes you and your partner
happy, people should turn up on the day because they love you and are a special
part of your life.
