Tranquil Garden Wedding in Waihi

Allison and Sean made their promise to spend forever together at The Waterlily Gardens in Waihi, surrounded by the beauty of nature and their loved ones. Their day was filled with love, laughter, and so many unforgettable moments. The photos from their celebration perfectly capture the joy and excitement of a couple completely immersed in the happiness of their special day.

Allison stunned in Busan by Forget Me Knot, a dreamy chiffon A-line dress featuring a delicate floral and leaf lace motif. The intricate lace beautifully decorates the bodice and continues along the edge of the train, adding a touch of drama and elegance. She paired her gown with our mantilla veil, a classic accessory that completes her bridal look.

We hope you enjoy reading all about their wedding journey and find some inspiration for your own special day!

What was it that made this particular wedding dress catch your eye and fall in love?

I actually came in with a few different options that I thought I would like, but I ended up not choosing any of them! The dress I chose made me feel amazing. It fit my body shape so nicely. The lace really sold it to me, though—it was beautifully placed around the dress, and I couldn't stop looking at it! I also had a couple of alterations done to make it perfect for me.

Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.

I had the best experience at Astra Bridal Hamilton. I went for the first time with my mum, aunty, and one of my bridesmaids. We were well looked after by Khym, who allowed me to take my time while also showing me different options that I might like. The whole time, I felt very comfortable and relaxed—just what you want when shopping for your dress! The process, from choosing the dress to the fitting and then picking it up, was so smooth and easy!

Tell us your story, how you both met, and the proposal.

We met online 9 years ago. Our first date was at The Bank in Hamilton. We clicked straight away and had so much in common; we were like long lost mates. On our 7th anniversary, we went to Taupo to celebrate and booked a stay at The Hilton. When we got to our room, we went straight out to check the view. After soaking it all in, he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him.

What was your favourite part of the day?

There were so many!

I loved getting ready with my mum and bridesmaids in the morning. Walking down the aisle with my dad, seeing everyone, then seeing Sean standing there waiting for me, and thinking about how special this day was. I also really loved having my two brothers be part of our day.

Tell us about your wedding day as a whole.

It rained and rained all day! The one time it stopped was when I had to walk from the car to the venue. But it didn’t take away from the day whatsoever.

The morning started off slowly, but once people began to arrive at our accommodation, it started to speed by! I had my mum and bridesmaids there getting ready with me in the morning—laughing, chatting, and listening to music. Once I was ready, I had a first look with my dad and brothers, then headed to the venue. That’s when the nerves kicked in!

The ceremony started, and it was beautiful. I was so excited to see Sean standing at the end of the aisle. I instantly felt more at ease. We had a close friend as our celebrant and were surrounded by our friends and family.

The reception was wonderful. The speeches were a mixed bag of hilarious and touching. The food was delicious, and the music was pumping.

It was a day full of love, laughter, food, and dancing. We will never forget how special our day was.

Finally, what is your biggest piece of advice for brides to be?

Start planning early. That way, you can slowly tick off all the different things that need to be organised before the day and have more time to enjoy the process! It shouldn’t be a stressful time—it’s all about the two of you!

Also, the day goes by very quickly. Try to take a moment for yourselves to sit back and soak it all in.
